Webcams can be used for much more than broadcasting a live feed of yourself while chatting. With the right software, they can be used for presentations over the Internet, surveillance and more. FlashCam provides a variety of possibilities for your webcam. It enables you to broadcast a live feed or a video file to a server of your choosing or over a P2P connection and it lets you make numerous configurations.

Installing FlashCam on a Windows powered machine takes a few moments. The process is straightforward and it does not include advanced settings. You will not have to sacrifice too much disk space or other resources to run the software. It works smoothly even with modest hardware.

The interface does not contain too many options and if you have difficulties understanding them, you can bring up a series of step by step instructions by selecting an option in the Help menu. The core settings can be made on the software's tabbed Options window, where you may select a video source (file, webcam feed, etc), a destination, adjust the video and audio quality and much more. To start broadcasting, you only need to click a Play button, located on the toolbar. A preview of the feed can be found on the left side of the interface. The right side is where you can chat with people who connect to your feed.

If you are using an embedded server, you can acquire an HTML and paste it on your web site, to publish your live feed. As previously mentioned, you can broadcast a video from your hard drive as well. After selecting a different source on the Options window and clicking the Play button, you will need to select a video file. It is possible to restrict access to your broadcast, by setting up a password or specifying a referer.

Pros

You can broadcast to an embedded server, a rebroadcasting server or over a P2P connection. It is possible to use different sources, like webcams, videos or virtual webcams. The application's interface is simple, making your work easy and comfortable.

Cons

The software can not broadcast videos of certain formats. Besides that, the possibility of locking the interface with a password would have been useful. If you need to keep an eye on your children or check on your employees, FlashCam is an excellent tool for this job.
